Unique Deaths & Challenges ( 1/2 day )
Overview: Murder, missing children, medically frail and terminally ill children in the classroom provide special challenges. Included in this workshop are ideas for the child who is out of school due to a family loss (death of a parent or sibling, etc.).
Goals: All who work in the Safe Room or provide support to a school in the aftermath of crisis need to be prepared for the unexpected twist that makes a response exhausting, challenging or complicated. This workshop is to prepare responders to think creatively and flexibly, extending the services offered in ways that meet special needs at difficult times. Intended audience: Flight Team and Rapid Response Team members, administrators, school counselors, nurses, school psychologists and others. Content: Homicide, suicide, missing children, medically frail/terminally ill children, community events that impact the school, terrorism and more. Prerequisites: Helpful to have had Administrative and Organizational Issues, Grief and Youth in Grief. Related materials: Crisis Resource Manual. Handout provided.
