Drills - An All Hazards Approach
This online resource gives "real time" information of the unfolding of real crises to which schools have responded. Included is information for preparation and a questionnaire for improving your school plan and capacity to respond.
How it works: This site license allows all principals in a district to log onto their computers at any time to access a range of drills that can be run during the school day. A PDF file provides advance staging information, such as time of day this is to be run (such as during lunch, during class time, during passing period When the principal is ready to start the drill, the opening window provides the "begin now" command, and from there the drills are self-timed. As information about an incident would become apparent to a principal in a real incident, that is revealed on the screen in "real time". The principal responds to the information. At the end of the drill, a questionnaire provides insights for improving the school's plan for that type of emergency.
What you get: This site license allows a principal to fulfill the new state requirements for running varieties of drills each year, and provides the superintendent clear information about strengths and weaknesses in each building's procedures as the post-drill questionnaire is answered.
What its worth: The real reason to do this is to save lives! These drills are modeled after actual events. The information that continues to appear on the screen allows a true test of more than just the concept of the possibility of a particular kind of emergency, but additional unanticipated details that erupt in real events.
What it costs: This is a district site license. Annual fees are $100 per school building.
Our goal is to provide cutting-edge resources to promote school safety.
